Know the flow

When you started your direct sales business you were excited. It was the next best thing since sliced bread.
Now you've been working your business for twelve months and you've learned the ups and downs of direct sales. You should be looking at your sales statistics and you see a what months are good and what months you have a slight dip in sales.

With this industry as in other sales industries you need to look at the flow of your business. There are great months and then there are months that you have to be very creative. I've also heard that August is a tough month  for some businesses, some say it's January. To me it doesn't matter if it's a challenge you still need to be open for business and to look at your flow. If you are aware then you can manage your expectations.

Imagine we are in a row boat coasting down a river. We are going to go the way the water is flowing. But if you put your oars in the water then you are going to start to steer the boat in the direction you want to go. Sometimes its with the current but other times you need to go against it.  Are you coasting along in your business or are you going in the direction you want to go?

There is someone out there every day having a show, hosting a party, or scheduling their automatic order. You just have to find the right person who NEEDS what you have to offer. Watch your business watch the flow and then go... WORK YOUR BUSINESS.  Watch the flow and be prepared to steer your business in the direction you want it to go. Sometimes you need help in steering. The great thing about direct sales is you don't have to do this alone. Call in the sailing crew, (upline, sponsor, or business coach) to help you direct this boat the way you want to go.

Direct Seller Motivation: Serving Others

Serving Others

I wanted to share with you an excerpt from my forthcoming book, Direct Seller's Secrets to Staying Inspired- Your S.S.I.

Starting a new business is never easy whether you are new to direct sales or you are starting with a new company. You need the assurance that you can be successful. When I started my current business, I had the knowledge of the industry but it was a new product and people weren’t familiar with the line in my area. The thing that saved me is that people will do business with people that they like. I made it my mission to reconnect and work on my relationships.

I am blessed enough to have a good friend and accountability partner in the business. Each week we talk about new approaches we can take to grow our business. This particular week, we were discussing the Mother’s day season. It was May of 2010 and historically for me that has always been one of my best seasons. We came up with many ideas on how to get our products in the hands of Moms before the holiday passed.
I started calling people on my warm list but began to be unhappy with my results. I started to feel really down. I couldn’t figure out why I was not as success with this new line. I started to doubt myself and doubt my decision to join this company.
Once I stopped doubting myself I realized that I needed to step out into a larger circle of people if I wanted to grow my brand in my local area. l needed to get exposure and get out to meet new people to turn the leads into actual parties or customers. I decided I had to make a change or I would be force to go back to a corporate job which I did not want to do. I had to start to approach my business in a different way.
I started to offer my spa service to different organizations. I went to different places, set up my products and did hand scrubs. I looked at it as giving my time and giving of myself. The women loved the products. They loved the experience and my attitude of providing a service to them. From just going to serve, I made sales, made bookings and met new business partners.
The difference is I shifted my attitude from what was not working to an attitude of giving a service to them. I made the decision to not just stay in the same place and just complain. I took action and the action was to focus on the gift I could give.
When you give you will always receive back. As independent representatives we offer great customer services they can’t get in department stores or by buying on line. We can offer the experience. Once I took the focus off of me I saw the shift in my business and I started attracting positive results.

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, shall they give into your bosom.”  Luke 6:38 SV

Do you have an attitude of serving others?

Direct Seller Motivation: Help wanted: A Sponsor

Help wanted: A Sponsor

I had a conversation with a group of Direct Sellers who were discussing the struggles of not having an active sponsor or no sponsor at all. It made me think does having an active sponsor determine whether I am successful or not?

For me I have experienced both. In my first direct sales business I had a very active and supportive sponsor. I learned so much from her. The great thing was that she really taught me this business. It was a good experience until she decided to leave the company we were in.

She expected that the leaders in her team would follow her. When I chose to stay with my company, it did put an end to a very close relationship that we had built over the years. I felt like the child who had to stand up to their parents for the first time. Karen Phelps says it best "I had to put my big girl panties on"? LOL
That was another life lesson for me because I was in business for me not for a great sponsor.

When I started with another direct sales company a few years later. I had a sponsor who dropped out of sight within a year of me joining. I then was faced with another life lesson & challenge of finding someone in the company who could support me. I went to the other up-line leaders and gleaned  information from anyone who would return my calls or email.  (You know one or two of my up-line leaders did not respond to me.) :-)

I decide to go to the National Convention in the summer with a purpose. To find other consultants that I could connect with and build a relationship with. The best decision I could have made. I went alone and I came back with connections and support. I was adopted by another Supervisor who included me in on some of her training calls with her team. When you working with intention you get results.

I have also made it a practice to follow some of the most successful direct sales trainers in the industry. I invest in business because I am worth it. The bible says "Seek, Ask, Knock"! You have to not give up until you get the support you need for your business. That is what you need to do.
